Cooking is really an artistic variation of chemistry! Heres a fun and easy Christmas holiday project for the chemistry lab. Make these peppermint cream wafers for a seasonal project or demonstration. Difficulty: Average Time Required: 30 minutes Peppermint Water Materials sucrose (table sugar)concentrated liquid sucrose (or Karo syrup)potassium tartrate (cream of tartar)lactose (we will use milk)food coloringoil of peppermint250 ml beaker or a saucepancandy thermometer or other metal-backed thermometeraluminum foilassorted labware or utensils for stirring, etc. Procedure First, make sure all of the measuring utensils and glassware are clean and dry. If possible, use beakers that have never been used for more tradition chemistry experiments, since residues of chemicals can remain in the glass.Measure and mix the following chemicals in a 250-ml beaker: 1/4 cup or 2 tablespoons or 2 level medicine cups of sugar; 8 ml (1.5 tsp) milk; 10 ml (2 tsp) Karo syrup; 1/4 tsp or pea-sized amount of cream of tartar.Heat the mixture until its temperature reaches 200Â °F, stirring often.Once the temperature reaches 200Â °F, cover the beaker (with foil) and remove it from the heat for 2 minutes.Return the mixture to the heat. Heat and stir until the temperature reaches 240Â °F (soft-ball on a candy thermometer).Remove the mixure from heat and add one drop of peppermint oil and 1-2 drops of food coloring.Stir until the mixture is smooth, but not any longer than that or else the candy could harden in the beaker. Avoid stirring longer than 15-20 seconds.Pour coin-siz ed drops of the mixture onto a sheet of foil. Depending on the size of the drops, you will get 8-12 of them. Allow the candy to cool, then peel the drops off to enjoy your treat! Hot water is sufficient for clean-up. Tips You can use wooden tongue depressors or metal spoons for stirring.Disposable plastic measuring cups, such as those used to dispense liquid medications, work well for measuring the ingredients for a lab of students.The mixture can be heated over a hotplate or a bunsen burner, with a ring stand and wire gauze pad. The concepts and theoretical understanding create the basic knowledge needed for clinical assessment in care givers (Thomas Law, 2013). The development of reasoning skills of deduction, innovation of ideas and inductive reasoning develops from general assumptions is facilitated by theoretical knowledge (LoBiondo-Wood Haber, 2017). This helps to apply a direction for a common goal, leading to develop strategy for improved patient care and rationale to take clinical decisions. It is important to develop the EBP to promote change in the healthcare institution. The integration of EBP in the clinical practice can be done by formulating a framework of care plan. Patient preferences: it is important for a nurse to value the preference of patients when it comes to good clinical practice. The statistics reveal that the investment in agricultural products by UAE in other countries will increase with the passage of time, as the rising demand of agricultural products invites more and more investors into the industry. Supply and Demand of Agricultural Products in UAE In the era of global food crisis one of the major challenges faced by UAE is to make sure the uninterrupted supply of agricultural products whether through imports or local production (Malek, 2013). In our case the demand for agricultural products in UAE is increasing as shown by the figure-4, creating a shortage, also the local production of UAE is limited due to water shortages and limited land available for cultivation. Therefore the government is focusing on tunnel farming and other techniques of water efficient farming in UAE. Demand refers to the relationship between how much of anything people are willing to purchase available at different prices (Grant Vidler, 2000, p. 10). Therefore the increasing exports show that there is a shortage of agricultural products in the market, eventually increasing the demand for agricultural products. Demand and Supply Curve Economic theory reveals that a shortage in supply eventually increases prices, and surplus in supply reduces demand and decreases the prices eventually (Mceacher, 2012, p. 86). Such a state in economics is known as the state of disequilibrium, when there is a shortage or a surplus. Of course, there was a time when political campaigns were much smaller than they are now – before television, radio, and the Internet. Modern campaigns cost millions, or even billions, of dollars, especially in presidential elections. This enormous increase in spending over the last few decades has caused many to fear for the future of American democracy. If so few can contribute so much, why would politicians even bother to listen to the average voter? Lawmakers have taken steps on numerous occasions to reign in this political spending and even the playing field for the average voter, but that would mostly be undone with the Supreme Court’s decision in the 2010 case, Citizens United v. Federal Election Commission. This controversial decision struck down many regulations, citing that they violated the First Amendment. In the election cycles since, we have seen an unprec edented wave of shadowy organizations contributing unimaginable sums of money, drowning out everyone else. In order to understand how the Supreme Court came to it’s conclusion and how the average voter can ultimately overcome it, we must understand the history of campaign finance law in the United States. Background Concerns about corporate influence in national elections found its way into the halls of Congress after President Theodore Roosevelt’s 1904 re-election. President Roosevelt himself suggested to Congress that they make a point of passing legislation that would ban corporate contributions to political campaigns.
